About CodeFirst
We are a UK software company that looks after business systems for the long term. Since 2012 we have taken over software other people built, kept it dependable and modernised it, and built new systems for clients who then stayed.
How we started
CodeFirst was founded in 2012. The aim was a company that clients could hand an important system to and stop worrying about it.
That is still the work. Some of our client relationships are now more than ten years old, and most of what we do for those clients is unglamorous: keeping a system that matters secure, current and reliable, and improving it a piece at a time.
What we are good at
Older systems on Microsoft technology: .NET Framework, SQL Server, Web Forms and MVC, Access, and the JavaScript front ends of the last fifteen years. We know how these systems were typically built, where they tend to fail and how to move them forward without a rewrite that stops the business.
We also build new software. Because we expect to maintain what we build, we build it to be maintained, and we are comfortable quoting a fixed price for a scope we have agreed with you.
How we work
- You deal with engineers. The person you talk to understands the system and can answer technical questions.
- You own everything. Source code, accounts, servers and documentation are yours, and kept in a state that another team could pick up.
- We say what we found. If a system should be replaced, or a project does not suit a fixed price, we will tell you before you spend money on it.
- Small steps, released often. Changes go live in small, reversible pieces, with a tested way back.

Graham Church
Founder and managing director
Graham founded CodeFirst in 2012 after eighteen years as a software developer, working on systems for organisations including Pfizer, Sony Ericsson, Prudential, ABB and Lycos.
He still leads the technical work. When you talk to CodeFirst about a system, you are talking to someone who can read its code.
